Sea Turtle Information

Sea turtles are one of nature’s most unique animals. They are critical to the health of ocean and coastal habitats including coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and beaches. So not only are they fun for divers to watch, they also help keep the best places to dive healthy and thriving.

Unfortunately sea turtles face a wide variety of threats and six of the seven species are threatened or endangered due to human activities. Plastic pollution, global warming, consumption of their eggs, meat, and shells, entanglement in fishing gear, and other threats affect these species around the world. Divers can help support conservation efforts by adopting turtle-friendly diving practices, supporting turtle conservation programs by volunteering and donating, and using your voice and economic power to encourage conservation.

Divers can learn more about these animals and how to protect them.
